A Question for the Anti-War Left

How, if not by force, should Saddam's regime be prevented from murdering its own people?

One would think that supporters of human rights would be thinking long and hard about this question, at the same time that they protest long and hard against the war. Yet I pose it because, to date, no decent answer has been forthcoming. The typical responses I've been getting have been obtuse, to say the least: we need to work through the United Nations; the US is hypocritical; there'll be a postwar humanitarian crisis; I'm asking the wrong question; etc.
